So far, NASA has confirmed the discovery of 1,693 planets outside our solar system, and identified 3,845 additional "candidate exoplanets." And astronomers estimate that in the Milky Way alone, there are at least 8.8 billion planets orbiting stars in a habitable temperature zone.
